MARKLANDER/WEBSITE report – Airport Committee Update

We are pleased to report that a great deal of work has been done over the summer to establish a strong and united coalition on behalf of more than 10 communities and 7 elected officials at the municipal, provincial and federal levels of government.

This new group will be countering recent operational changes proposed by the GTAA affecting the flight paths, operating hours and volume of traffic at Toronto Pearson International Airport. The coalition will emphasize concerns over safety to the passengers and to the community as this is the only topic (i. e. safety) that Transport Canada is willing to discuss.

With much effort, good cooperation and above all, our most appreciated political leadership, we have formed our coalition uniting the efforts of Markland Wood (MWHA), Rockwood Homeowners’ Association (RHA) and Fleetwood Homeowners Association (FHA) with Sherway Homeowners & Recreation Association (SHORA) and the Alderwood Residents Association (ARA).

The coalition is called the Community Alliance for Air Safety (CAAS) and was formed on August 29, 2017. We have also registered a website, Facebook site, Twitter account and a crowd funding site. All will be live in the coming week.
