Airport Committee will serve inform Markland Homes Association members of
developments affecting the Markland Wood area in relation to Toronto Pearson
Airport. The committee will also represent the Markland Residents at all
GTAA public meetings and forums, while serving as a conduit for feedback from
members regarding Airport Concerns in the Markland Wood area. The MHA
Airport Committee will also maintain frequent communications with neighbouring
residents associations and appropriate government in regards to all GTAA
related issues. The GTAA noise complaint number is 416-247-7682 - remember your feedback is reviewed by the GTAA!
Did you
know? In 2004 Pearson became the worlds 25th busiest airport. Estimates are that in 2005 29,000,000 passengers pass through Pearson. Estimates also show that the current capacity of the airport is 50,000,000 passengers.
33R 0.2% of Total Movements Arrivals 3.9 % of Total Movements Departures.
The GTAA prefer NOT to land towards the North. They claim the area to the South of Pearson is more noise sensitive, but the main reason is that the East West Runways offer them more flexibility allowing for more aircraft movements. Reasons
why flights would switch to North / South Operations are:
The GTAA DO listen to and log all noise complaints (time of day and location of complaint), and the GTAA noise management committee meets regularly and discusses noise complaints. If there is a specific geographic concentration of calls on a specific day this is noted and discussed.
The GTAA hold regular meetings and forums to discuss current events and upcoming changes affecting the surrounding areas of Pearson. Your Airport Committee will have representation on behalf of the Markland Wood neighbourhoods and will report back with any relevant news on this page. More details of the upcoming meetings at the GTAA can be found at the following link GTAA Website Read the World Health Organization's Report on Night Noise from the World Health Organization's Website
