FLASH - MARKLANDERS HAVE A COMMUNITY LOGO AND SLOGAN!!!
Congratulations
Marklanders!
Thanks
to everyone who responded to our call for ideas for a community
logo and slogan. Due to your inspired input, we now have a winning
design, a composite of all the many ideas sent in.
It
was unveiled at the Markland Homes Association Annual Meeting on
June 6, 2005 by Councillor Holyday and Patrick Clifford, MHA
President.
The
slogan "A Circle of Friends" captures the essence of
what it feels like to live here, surrounded by so many warm and
friendly people. The circle is also a reference to our unique
layout of streets, with Markland Drive being one of the few
complete circular streets in all of Toronto.
The
circular logo captures the same idea and builds on it. The blue
background of the circle symbolizes the circular shape formed by
Etobicoke Creek and Renforth Creek. Aerial photos of our
neighbourhood show this distinctive geography.
The
Maple leaf symbolizes Canada and the Alder leaf stands for
Etobicoke, which is derived from the Mississauga First Nation term
for "the place where the alders grow". (Ojibwa)
The logo will be added to the MHA letterhead and the
front page of all future Marklanders. It represents our entire
neighbourhood. It complements but does not replace the slogan and
logo of the Markland Homes Association, which has remained
unchanged since 1962.
