1) Toronto Police Services
Announcement.
|
Promote:
TPSlinks
One
of the goals of the
Toronto Police Service, Community
Mobilization Unit is to "identify
shared community values and support and empower
communities to build the capacity necessary to
resist and/or prevent crime and disorder". With
this in mind, TPSlinks has been created to
increase communication between the police,
residents and business owners within Toronto.
TPSlinks is a Community Automated Notification
System that will be utilized by the Toronto
Police Service to transmit information to the
public in an effective manner.
In light of recent
occurrences that required the evacuation of
citizens from their residences, the need for a
Toronto-based communication system was
identified. TPSlinks allows the Toronto Police
Service to notify recipients about safety
concerns, emergencies, missing persons, amber
alerts, and potential instruction related to
these events as well as everyday occurrences
including road closures or community events.
TPSlinks will
serve as a communication device to replace the
existing autodialler. Utilizing aspects of the
outdated tool, TPSlinks applies advanced
technology to deliver a more efficient
communication system.
Current community
members who are registered with the autodialler
system must re-register under TPSlinks in order
to receive future notifications. Toronto
residents and business owners who do not
register with TPSlinks will not receive
automatic notifications.
For more
information and to register or pre-register,
Toronto residents and business owners are asked
to visit the Toronto Police Service website at
www.torontopolice.on.ca
and click on the TPSlinks icon. If you do not
have access to a computer, there will be
hardcopy registration forms provided at 22
Division.
If you have
difficulty registering to TPSlinks or are not
receiving TPSlinks messages, do not call
911, send a message to
TPSlinks@torontopolice.on.ca

Some interesting facts about Compact
Fluorescent Lightbulbs or CFLs.
A 60W
incandescent bulb can be replaced by a 11W CFL
40 million 11W CFLs would save 2,000 MegaWatts of electricity.
It would cost 200 million dollars to give away 40 million CFLs.
Therefore it would cost 200 million dollars to save 2,000
MegaWatts of electricity.
Pickering A plant produces, when working, 515 MegaWatts of
electricity.
It will cost 1 billion dollars to produce 500 MW by other
means, eg: by fixing one of the “broken” nuclear plants.
In Ontario in 1999, the electricity demand due to lighting
alone was 5,000 MegaWatts.
Go figure!!
Now
there’s a chance to play your part and it won’t cost a
cent!
CFLs
This is an opportunity for all Markland Wood residents to make
a very small difference, but as you can see from the figures
above, if enough people go out and do the same, these small
differences quickly add up to something much more substantial.
Go make a difference!

News From Markland Wood
e-News Email
Broadcast System
Over the years the MHA has wanted to get the
information out to our members as quickly as possible. To
keep you informed, many years ago the MHA invested in an
‘Auto-Dialer’ telephone systems that eventually became
outdated faster than Eight-Track-Tapes. Often the MHA has
sent a letter attached to the Marklander or even as a stand
a loan newsletter. Sometimes, news comes to us so quickly
that it is difficult to post on the website. There are many
meetings, events and public notifications that the MHA
thinks you should have access to. This is why we have set up
the “News From Markland Wood” email broadcast system.
You will have to be proactive and register by sending an
email with your Full Name, Address and Telephone Number to News
(at) MarklandWood.org.
We will cross-reference your information with the membership
database and if you are up-to-date, you will be included.
Your email address won’t be used for any other purposes.
Others will not see your email address as we will use Blind
Carbon Copy (Bcc:) field to send these email broadcast
messages. You will only receive one or two email per month and can be
removed from the email broadcast list at any time.
