Attention children 10 years of age and under! We want you to draw our March front cover celebrating Spring! Be creative and show us your talent. Use crayons, markers or pencil crayons and enter our contest. Please use an 8.5 x 8.5 sheet of paper for your drawing. The winner will receive a Cineplex Gift Card.
All entries must be submitted no later than February 29th. Please deliver your drawing to 303 Markland Drive. Include your name, age and address on a SEPARATE piece of paper. The winner will be contacted by March 3rd. A release form will have to be completed in order to display the artist’s name in our publication and on our website.
We hope this reaches you after having had a happy Holiday Season. May 2017 be the best yet. There are a few issues about which I want to bring you up to date.
First of all, a major Independent Toronto Airspace Review (ITAR)) of the operations (day & night) of Pearson Airport has been initiated by Navigation Canada (Nav CANADA) and the Greater Toronto Airports Authority (GTAA). Engaged has been HELIOS, a British aerospace consulting firm based in Farnborough, England. As I indicated in an earlier Marklander, your MWHA has had a subcommittee following GTAA/Pearson operations for decades, and it is this same subcommittee that submitted on December 29, 2016 an MWHA ‘position paper’, under my signature, to HELIOS and the Review panel. The Markland Wood community has been intrinsically connected to GTAA operations since the 1960’s, and we believe its views, expertise and community concerns should be taken note of by the Review. It is for this reason that our paper focuses on the ‘Terms of Reference’ (ToR) of the Review, i.e. what should be studied. We anticipate that after this study, the next review to examine Pearson airport needs looks to be about 2025, a decade or so away.
