Christmas Caravan (middle of December)Santa & Police Volunteers

Each year, one or two weeks before Christmas, the Markland Wood community organizes a collection of non-perishable food items and clothing for distribution to several charities in Toronto.Big Smile from Markland Girl Meeting Santa

Our Caravan visits every home in Markland Wood (about 1300 altogether). Typically we collect over 15,000 pounds of food, a truckload of clothes and over approximately $500 in donations. The charities that benefit are The Salvation Army, The Brothers of the Good Shepherd and The Scott Mission. The money is donated to The Toronto Star Santa Claus Fund.

A caravan, consisting of a fire engine, a police car, a truck, Santa, elves, and many volunteers from the community, circles the streets in the area and gathers food parcels, clothing and cash. This event is supported by local businesses, the Police, and the fire department. Each year it becomes the proof of the generosity of Marklanders. Champagne Social - A Table Full Of Fun!

2006 Annual Renforth Creek and Community Clean-up

Held in late April in conjunction with Environmental Day & Toronto Clean Up Day.

Markland Wood is Proud of Everyone That Helped - Congratulations!

This event started in 2004, and gives our community an opportunity to  get out and clean up the year’s accumulation of garbage in the Renforth Creek area, between Burnhampthorpe and Neilson Park Creative Centre. The first year (2004) was the most arduous, with the removal of tons of rubbish. The April 2005 clean-up was much easier. We start at the Bloordale United Church parking lot. You supply the muscle and goodwill, we supply the barbequed hot dogs, hamburgers, pop and garbage bags, then the city will pick up the garbage. What a great deal!
